Washington, D.C. – Former senators and One Country Fund co-founders Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Donnelly released the following statement in response to former Vice President Joe Biden’s selection of Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate.

“History was made today when Kamala Harris became the first woman of color to become the presumptive vice president nominee for any major party. At a time of great unrest and uncertainty around issues of racism, Harris not only represents hope for a more inclusive and tolerant future, but also has the experience our country so desperately needs right now,” said One Country Fund co-founder Heidi Heitkamp. “As California’s Attorney General, Kamala Harris made her mark fighting for children, especially those who experienced trauma, and for consumers and working families – including those form rural communities. She is a great friend who will bring a tenacity and sense of accountability and responsibility back to the Office of the Vice President.”
